Privacy policy
India AI Safety Network is a non-profit community based in India. We collect a small amount of personal information through this site, use it only to run the network, and do not share it with any other organisation. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to have it removed.
Who we are
India AI Safety Network (IASN) is an independent, non-profit community for people in India who want advanced AI to go well. We run this website and the forms on it. For anything to do with your information, write to hello@indiaaisafety.org.
What we collect
We only collect what you type into a form on this site. There are two forms.
- The newsletter form asks for your email address.
- The join form asks for your name, email address, city, what you do, how far along you are with AI safety, what you would like to take part in, and anything else you choose to tell us in the free-text box. It also asks whether you want the newsletter.
This site does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Like any website, the servers that host it keep short-lived technical logs (such as your IP address and the pages requested) to keep the site running and to spot abuse. We do not use these logs to identify you.
Why we collect it
We use your information to do what you asked for and to run the network.
- To send you a welcome note, or the newsletter you signed up for.
- To understand who is in the network, so that we can plan reading groups, events and projects that suit the people in it.
- To keep you posted about reading groups, talks, convenings, research from the network and career opportunities, and to get in touch when something matches what you told us you were interested in.
- To reply if you write to us.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or build profiles of you for any other purpose.
Consent, and how to withdraw it
We rely on your consent, which you give when you submit a form. You can withdraw it at any time, and it costs nothing to do so.
To withdraw your consent, ask us to correct what we hold, or ask what we hold about you, send an email to hello@indiaaisafety.org from the address you signed up with. We will remove your details from our records and from any list you were added to, and confirm when it is done. We aim to do this within thirty days, and usually much sooner.
Every newsletter also carries an unsubscribe link. Using it stops the newsletter but does not remove your other details, so if you want everything gone, email us.
How long we keep it
We keep your details for as long as you are part of the network, or until you ask us to remove them. If the network winds down, we will delete the records rather than pass them on.
How we protect it
Forms are submitted over an encrypted connection. Access to the records is limited to the volunteers who need it, behind accounts with two-step verification. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you if something goes wrong with your data.
Other sites
This site links to reading, courses and organisations elsewhere, and to our accounts on Instagram, X and LinkedIn. Those sites and services have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. Anything you post publicly on those platforms is visible to everyone there.
Children
The network is for adults and older students. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.
Your rights under Indian law
We handle personal data in line with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Under it you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, withdraw your consent, and raise a grievance with us. Write to the email address above for any of these. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also email the people it affects.
